Principal Welcome
Principals welcome
A very warm welcome to Our Lady of Good Counsel Girls’ National School.
It is both a privilege and a pleasure to serve as Principal of such a vibrant, caring and inclusive school community.
At OLGC GNS, we pride ourselves on being a welcoming and inclusive school where every child is valued, respected and supported to reach her full potential. Our dedicated staff work collaboratively to create a safe, nurturing and stimulating learning environment that celebrates diversity and promotes the holistic development of each pupil — academically, socially, emotionally and spiritually.
As a DEIS Band 2 school, we are committed to ensuring that every child has equal access to opportunities that promote success and wellbeing. Our school provides a wide range of supports and programmes in literacy, numeracy, wellbeing, and social development, along with a strong focus on student voice, parental involvement and community partnership.
We are especially proud of our inclusive ethos, which embraces pupils of all abilities and backgrounds. Our mainstream and special classes work together to foster understanding, empathy and friendship, reflecting our belief that every child has unique gifts to share.
Our curriculum is enriched through participation in initiatives such as Weaving Wellbeing, STEM, Write to Read and Mindful Matters, all of which help to nurture confidence, creativity and a love of learning. We have just implemented our Bí Cineálta policy, a policy that promotes a culture of kindness, respect, and empathy throughout the school, encouraging all members of our community to act with care towards themselves and others.
At the heart of our school is a strong sense of community and care — between pupils, staff, parents and the wider parish. We greatly value the partnership between home and school, recognising that by working together we can provide the very best educational experience for our pupils.
I invite you to explore our website to learn more about our school life, our values and our achievements.
Thank you for visiting, and for sharing in our vision for an inclusive, joyful and caring learning community where every child truly belongs.
Warm regards,
Isla Sherlock
Acting Principal
